Skin the Fox - Boycotting Fox News Advertisers.
5 Brands the Nazis Gave Us - Name pretty much says it all. Some real corporate douchebags here.
30 Million Americans May Be Eligible In Class-Action Suit - Have not had a chance to look over all the info but may be useful to others.
Clear Channel bans Springsteen’s new stuff - I like the boss and have heard mixed reviews of his new stuff but he’s not someone I go out of my way to listen to. But the fact that Clear Channel dominates so much of the industry is bad for artists and the public. Not to mention the founder is an Aggie. This guy is my new arch-nemesis.
BTW - if you want to complain to the FTC or email the commissioners, feel free.
Well I just finished the closing. I am feeling a bit sick to my stomach. The process was not bad but damn, everyone gets their hands in the pie when it comes to real estate. Things I learned about buying a house:
- Get a real estate agent who knows the area you want to buy in. I was undecided about a couple of areas and went with a recommendation. She was not bad but I wish she had known the area I bought in a bit better.
- If you get the seller to pay closing costs then be conservative in your estimates or you are just giving money to the seller. My seller made an extra $300+ because my agent overestimated. Take 10% off what your agent estimates closing costs will be and be prepared to cover that on closing.
If you try and do it own your own good luck. I have no idea how you would buy or sell on your own when it comes to getting the forms, how to file, etc. If someone out there has done it on there own, please leave a comment on your experiences.
Stephon Marbury’s $15 sneaker - I enjoy posting the anti-DotW’s I find. I just wish I could find more of them. Stephon Marbury has a $15 sneaker after passing on lucrative endorsement deals. The guy has plenty of money already and thinks that parents struggling to make ends meet should have an option as far as their kids’ footwear. That is pretty fucking cool. I wish more celebs and athletes thought like this.
Yesterday was the big consumer launch for Vista and I meant to post this yesterday but beers always take precedent. I’ve been using Vista and Office 2007 at work for right at a month. You can read reviews everywhere. So I’ll keep this short. The first thing you will do if you’re a power user is to turn off the User Access Control. It hoses up a lot of apps like Visual Studio. Vista is pretty but so is OS X. It is clearly a knock off and I don’t find many reasons to upgrade. I have not tried the Media Center version (Ultimate) but I suspect I’ll upgrade to that soon on my mediabox. Obviously icons are moved and you’ll need to hunt around for a few things which is aggrevating. If you want to upgrade for the sexy factor, which is probably the single most compelling reason to, then that is your call. I am not that impressed.
Office 2007, on the other hand, is well worth the upgrade. It is a very well designed and implemented. Obviously Outlook is used the most and the built in RSS reader is fantastic. I can add work related feeds to that and not get distracted by my other feeds in Google Reader. And they are much easier to store and sort. Not had a need to do anything with Access 2007 but I have run some 2003 apps in it to see if they worked and they did. Excel/Word/InfoPath/OneNote have been opened and run but only minimally. Still I give it two big thumbs up!
Magnatune - I am always hesitant to recommend a business because of business practices I like because they can turn evil at any point (see Google) but this seems to be a recording label that gets it. Check them out.
Drink More, Earn More - Earn 10% to 17% more and become funnier, stronger, and sexier.
OptOutPrescreen - Cuts out junk mail by telling the evil credit companies not to give out your private info. Seems like opt-out should be the default. Completely legit! Via
