Looks like Alabama has fired Mike Shula. So the questions begin who will be the replacement. Aside from Larry Coker, I really have no idea who is out there to pick from. But here’s what I would like to see as far as lessons learned. Let’s look forward and not to the past. I know it is tempting to get someone who played under the Bear. That really has gotten us far. We need to adapt. But I don’t want to see Alabama attempt a West Coast offense sort of BS, I think we should be a classic defense/running game team. Also, note: if you are black, please don’t let Jesse Jackson or any outsiders attempt to pressure for your hiring. That will only backfire.
25 Greatest Science Books of All-Time - Looks like list season is here early. A lot of good books I really need to get around to reading. Looking at the first page, I am reminded how old the debate between science and religion is.
Although I don’t have the attention span to consider myself a gamer, I do like keeping up with the culture so I have Kotaku in my feeds. And it has turned up a couple of interesting links. The first is about Dave Satterfield, an old Malleteer I know. Dave went from having his car broke into at the PS3 launch to becoming the line king at the Wii launch. Note: Get in touch with Dave to play his next generation games soon!!!
And then there was this beauty which is oh so wrong:
Top 40 American Artists Working Today - Next month will officially kick off the Topnofx list season but to get a jump on it, I am pointing to Aquarium Drunkard’s kick-ass list.
Shula has disappointed a fan base with the highest of expectations. Best case scenario, he gets one more year but even if he goes 11-1 and that one is to Auburn, he’ll be gone.
Today is America Recycles Day, bet you probably did not know that. If you are looking to buy your favorite blogger a gift for the occasion, the ecopod would be perfect.
Magnatune - I am always hesitant to recommend a business because of business practices I like because they can turn evil at any point (see Google) but this seems to be a recording label that gets it. Check them out.
As anyone of you who reads this site regularly, my douchebag of the week has quickly become Douchebag of the Month or longer. It takes a lot to blog anything consistently beyond random links. So I am going to go ahead and hang it up. I may have an occasional rant here and there but I’d also like to counter the negativity with some positive posts on the site. Hopefully by ending DotW, people will stop being douchebags also. Anyway here is a grab bag of douchebags:
First up is my old alma mater, University of Alabama. First, they having an absolutely miserable football season. I travelled 8 hours to get a field level seat to see Missississippi Fucking State beat us. Missississippi FUCKING State. pathetic! Also they are having an ongoing legal battle with Daniel Moore over his very popular artwork for copyright violation. A+ for jackass moves. And finally, in another bone-headed move, U of A is cleaning up The Strip on University Ave from all its dive bars. I can’t tell you the number of times I drank in a bar at the strip to come out and see the sun up. Apparently, all the parents that had that much fun in the 70’s and 80’s don’t want their kids to experience the same. Going too corporate and sanitized. Stop being douchebags now!!!
Rush Limbaugh - Nothing really needs to be said here. There was the Michael J Fox incident but that probably helped the Dems more than anything else. Nope Rush is just the personification of douchebaggery.
Cindy Crawford - no, not that one, this one runs a faith-based nonprofit that receives federal money from BuSh. Long story short, she has blurred the lines of a couple of her nonprofits so that Hannah house, which tells pregnant girls to go to church twice a week and which church. Read the whole story for more details. Shady enough to qualify for a big DOUCHEBAG title.
OK that was it. Someone else is welcome to take the DotW and run with it if you choose. Say Goodbye in the comments if you wish!
