Good article. Dawkins is very articulate and has well thought out remarks. It’s unfortunate that he is not as well versed on the Bible and that some Christians don’t beleve that Revelation indicates a prophecy to come, rather past events. Which leads me to believe he probably has misrepresented thoughts regarding other portions of the Bible, such as, Christians do require proof of God, not blindly follow (i.e., a “blind faith”). The unfortunate thing is that Evoloution based on natural selection has just as many holes, if not more, than Creationism, but Evolution theory (and it’s still theory, just like Creationism), is the only theory allowed to be taught. So when parents teach their 4 year olds about another “theory”, it’s the only chance they get to be educated and allow them later to decide on their own when presented other theories.
Seriously?
I really find it odd that this is even debated these days. First, read 15 responses …. Creationism is not a valid scientific theory because it is based in faith in a higher being and by the nature of faith, this is not testable to verify or disprove. Evolution happens all the time around us and is pretty undeniable. This does not damage faith, hell even Pope JP2 “got” evolution. I will say the constant defensive stanse that attempts to legitimize faith as a valid scientific theory DOES hurt religion.
Creationism definitely falls into the “social” science theories. Evolution is a physical science theory.
