Prairie Home Companion Movie Review

I watched A Prairie Home Companion on Saturday. I’ll give it a mixed review. I had some issues with Dangerous Woman character and her actions drove a lot of the plot. I did not hate the casting of Lindsay Lohan as much as I thought I would. She did OK with the material but putting her next to Meryl Streep really spotlights her flaws as an actress. By far the best part of the movie was John C. Reilly and Woody Harrelson in their last song, “Bad Jokes”. That is pretty much worth the price of admission.
One other thing I will add. We went to the Saturday matinee were probably 20 years younger than the average of the theater audience’s age. And one thing about old people is they have no hesitation with talking during a movie. Shouting out plot points about 10 minutes after they were revealed and I would guess many were repeating dialogue for the older and deafer members of the audience.
So I am a fan of Garrison Keillor and the radio show but this is a tough movie to recommend to non-fans. I would give it a 7 overall mainly due to some great acting and well-written dialogue.

Recycling Woes

So today I spent about an hour and a half looking for a place to recyle in town. We used to have an older woman who would recycle but she retired. I took it over and thought I had the whole gig outsourced to a former coworker who collects and cashes in for his church. I mentioned the cans had built up a couple of weeks ago to him and got no reaction. Hell, I am not going to beg the guy.
Anyway so I go into work on a Sunday and place the cans into a garbage bag (with much spillage) and end up with plenty that won’t fit so I put those in a box and head out. First stop only had bins to recycle cardboard (I’ll have to get to the douche that recommended that place). So then I head across the Street to the Wild Oats and the very friendly girl there calls her dad and asks where he recycled his stuff at. I thank her and head out to Stagecoach & I-30 to a scrap metal place that is closed. I am not looking for cash but I do want to get rid of the damn things. Right now I have a trash bag and box full of cans in the back seat of my car. Any town where it is this tough to recycle has some serious fucking management issues.
